The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Silver 4110 processors, each running at 2.1 GHz with a 3.0 GHz turbo frequency and eight cores. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory installed across four 32 GB modules, leaving twelve slots free for expansion up to the 1 TB maximum. The system is aimed at organisations deploying VMware ESXi, Hyper-V or Proxmox VE virtualisation clusters, database hosting, file services or software-defined storage workloads.

Storage Controller and Drive Bay Constraints

The integrated Dell PERC H730P controller provides 2 GB cache and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode over 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA links. Only eight 2.5-inch drive trays are populated in this configuration, so eight of the sixteen front bays remain empty and require additional trays before drives can be added. The dual-port gigabit Ethernet adapter limits network throughput to 1 Gb/s unless extra PCIe network cards are installed.

Installation Notes and Common Issues

The server includes two hot-swap 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 9 Express for remote management, simplifying initial setup and ongoing maintenance. Front bezel and ready rails are not supplied, so rack mounting hardware must be sourced separately. Memory upgrades must use DDR4 ECC registered modules; mixing unbuffered or non-ECC DIMMs will prevent the system from posting.
