This 5U rack server targets organisations that run virtualised workloads, databases or file services and need room for growth. Dual Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors deliver 24 cores at 2.3 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo ceiling. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4-2400 ECC memory and sixteen DIMM slots allow expansion toward a 1 TB ceiling. Sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays and a PERC HBA330 controller provide the storage density the chassis promises.

The installed Dell PERC HBA330 is a 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA host bus adapter that presents drives directly to the operating system without hardware RAID abstraction. Four Dell Enterprise 960 GB SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5-inch SSDs occupy four of the sixteen bays, leaving twelve slots open for additional SAS, SATA or SSD media. Buyers who require a hardware RAID card with cache or battery backup will need a different controller.

Dual 750 W platinum redundant power supplies

Two hot-swap 750 watt platinum-efficiency units share the load and maintain operation if one module fails. The power supplies are rated for platinum efficiency, which reduces heat output and fan speed under typical enterprise workloads. Acoustic behaviour will vary with inlet temperature and CPU utilisation, but the redundant design keeps cooling headroom available during sustained compute or storage tasks.
