Purpose-built 5U server

The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U rack server delivered with two Intel Xeon Gold 5120 processors. Each CPU provides 14 cores running at 2.2 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 32 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across four modules. A PERC H330 storage controller manages up to sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays, though only four drive trays are supplied. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundant hot-swap power. Integrated dual-port Gigabit Ethernet and iDRAC 9 Express remote management are standard.

Virtualisation and storage workloads

This configuration suits organisations deploying VMware ESXi, Hyper-V or Proxmox clusters that need dense 2.5-inch storage in a 5U form factor. The dual 14-core processors and ECC memory support database hosting, software-defined storage and business-critical applications. Buyers who require front bezel or ready rails must source them separately as they are not included. Teams needing pre-installed drives, a higher-end RAID controller with cache, or GPU-accelerated compute should evaluate other platforms.

Drive bay capacity

The chassis supports sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays for SAS, SATA or SSD media, but the package contains only four drive trays. Additional trays must be purchased to populate the remaining twelve slots.
