The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 fits a dual-processor layout into a single rack unit with redundant hot-swap power supplies. Two Intel Xeon E5-2603 v3 six-core processors run at 1.6 GHz and the system ships with 64 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 16 DIMM slots. The Smart HBA H240 controller provides RAID 0, 1 and 5 for the installed SAS drives.
Two 2.5-inch 146 GB 15 000 RPM SAS drives are pre-installed in the eight-bay SFF chassis and connect to the Smart HBA H240 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA RAID controller. The controller supports RAID 0, 1 and 5 so the pair can be mirrored for redundancy or striped for throughput. No solid-state drives or operating system are included.
Buyers needing a shallow 1U server with dual CPUs, high spindle-speed SAS storage and hardware RAID will find the configuration matched to those tasks. The memory ceiling is reached at 64 GB so workloads requiring more RAM should look elsewhere, and the Matrox G200 graphics only covers basic display output.

Other versions of this model
Same family, different memory, cooler or clock — compare before you commit.
The server includes hot-swap redundant 550 W power supplies; either unit can be replaced without shutting down the system.
The installed memory is already at the 64 GB maximum supported by the two E5-2603 v3 processors, so memory capacity is the first hard limit.
The 1U rack design uses multiple high-speed fans to cool the 550 W power supplies, dual CPUs and 15 K drives; expect noticeable airflow noise and warm exhaust air.
