The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2623 v3 quad-core processor running at 3 GHz with 8 GB of DDR4 ECC memory. Two 500 GB 7.2K 2.5-inch SATA drives connect to the onboard B140i software RAID controller supporting levels 0, 1 and 5. The 1U chassis offers eight SFF bays for future expansion.
Dual hot-swap 550 W power supplies share the load and keep the system running if one unit fails. The 1U airflow path pulls cool air from the front through the drive cage and across the processor and memory before exhausting at the rear. Fan speeds scale with inlet temperature to limit acoustic output in typical rack environments.
The integrated B140i controller provides hardware-assisted RAID 0, 1 and 5 for SATA drives only, removing the need for a separate HBA in entry configurations. The Matrox G200 chip delivers basic 2D video for local console or remote KVM access without consuming a PCIe slot. No operating system is included, so the installer chooses the hypervisor or OS.

Other versions of this model
Same family, different memory, cooler or clock — compare before you commit.
Fit the second Xeon into the empty socket, populate its eight DIMM slots with DDR4 modules, and enable the second CPU in the BIOS — forgetting the BIOS step leaves the new processor invisible to the OS.
The 7.2K 500 GB SATA drives have the shortest service life; plan to swap them for larger SATA or SAS units once capacity or SMART warnings appear.
The single 550 W power supply caps total draw, so prolonged full-core workloads will hit the PSU limit before the CPU or memory throttles.
