This 1U rack server delivers dense compute in a compact form factor. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 six-core processor running at 2.4 GHz and 16 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 24 DIMM slots. Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation. The chassis supports up to eight 2.5-inch SFF drives.
The B140i software RAID controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 on SATA drives only, making this unit a fit for budget-conscious storage or virtualisation hosts that do not require hardware acceleration. Buyers who need SAS connectivity, hardware RAID offload, or a second CPU for heavier multi-threaded tasks should look at a different configuration.
The installed B140i controller supports SATA RAID levels 0, 1, 5 and 10 without a hardware cache or battery backup. Two 500 GB 7.2K RPM SATA drives are included in the eight available bays. SAS or other interface types cannot be used with this controller, so drive expansion must remain SATA.

Other versions of this model
Same family, different memory, cooler or clock — compare before you commit.
The chassis supports up to two processors; each E5-2620 v3 provides six cores at 2.4 GHz with twelve threads via Hyper-Threading, so a second CPU doubles core count to twelve and thread count to twenty-four.
Each of the six cores runs at 2.4 GHz and handles two threads, giving twelve logical threads for parallel workloads; actual throughput scales with the number of active threads and memory bandwidth available.
The B140i controller manages SATA drives only and supports RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10; SAS devices are not supported by this controller.
