The HP ProLiant DL380 G9 is a 2U rack-mounted server system equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 processors. Each CPU provides 12 cores running at 2.3 GHz, giving 24 physical cores and 48 threads with hyper-threading enabled. The unit ships with 16 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed across 24 DIMM slots. Two 4 TB 3.5-inch SAS hard drives running at 7.2K RPM are included on an H240ar controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Redundant hot-swap 500 W power supplies are fitted as standard.

Suited for multi-threaded workloads needing SAS

This server fits environments that run virtualisation hosts, database clusters or batch-processing jobs where core count and SAS drive capacity matter more than single-thread speed. The 12-bay LFF chassis allows up to twelve 3.5-inch drives, so storage can grow without leaving the rack. Buyers who need GPU acceleration, single-thread frequency above 2.3 GHz or memory beyond the 16 GB installed should look at other configurations. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics controller provides only basic console output and cannot drive compute workloads.

Installed memory fixed at 16 GB DDR4 across 24 slots

The system arrives with 16 GB total DDR4 ECC registered memory populating a subset of the 24 available DIMM slots, 12 per processor. Although the chipset and CPU generation support larger capacities, the shipped configuration is limited to this amount unless additional modules are sourced separately. Memory speed will operate up to 2400 MT/s depending on the processor capability. Any expansion must use DDR4 ECC registered modules compatible with the Intel C610 chipset.
