2U rack server with dual Xeon E5-2609 v3 processors, 96GB DDR4 memory, two 146GB 15K SAS drives and a P440 4GB FBWC RAID controller
The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rackmount server equipped with two Xeon E5-2609 v3 processors running at 1.9GHz. It ships with 96GB of DDR4 memory installed across 24 DIMM slots. The system targets data-centre workloads that need redundant power and internal SAS storage in a compact rack footprint.
Two hot-swap 500W redundant power supplies keep the server running if one unit fails. The 2U chassis directs airflow across the processors, memory and drive cage during normal operation. Redundant power and hot-swap capability let maintenance continue without shutting the system down.
The front panel holds 24 small-form-factor 2.5-inch drive bays populated with two 146GB 15K SAS drives. An optional rear cage adds two more bays. The Smart Array P440 with 4GB flash-backed write cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for local data protection.

Same family, different memory, cooler or clock — compare before you commit.
Slide each 2.5 SAS drive into one of the 24 SFF bays until the latch clicks; the step people miss is creating the logical volume on the P440 4GB FBWC controller before the OS sees the array.
The flash-backed write cache uses a capacitor pack that typically lasts several years; when the controller reports a cache fault, replace the capacitor pack to restore write-back protection.
The 500 W redundant power supplies set the ceiling; total system draw cannot exceed 500 W per supply without triggering throttling or shutdown.
