The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for virtualization hosts and database workloads that demand high single-thread speed. Two six-core Xeon E5-2643v3 processors run at 3.4 GHz, providing 12 physical cores and 24 threads. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory fill part of the 24 DIMM slots. The Smart Array P440 controller with 4 GB flash-backed write cache manages two 600 GB 15 K SAS drives in a choice of RAID levels. Dual 500 W hot-swap supplies deliver redundant power.

Sustained load behaviour

The 15 K SAS spindles and FBWC cache keep write latency low during continuous database commits or log shipping. Sixteen hundred megatransfers per second DDR4 bandwidth feeds both sockets without bottlenecks. Redundant 500 W units share the load evenly, so a single supply failure does not throttle the CPUs. Twenty-four SFF bays allow capacity to grow without adding enclosures. The Matrox G200 graphics core consumes negligible power, leaving the full thermal envelope for compute.
