HP
2U rack server with Xeon E5-2630 v3 2.4 GHz, 128 GB DDR4, two 500 GB SATA drives and B140i RAID
The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for data-centre workloads that need dense compute and memory in a compact chassis. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor at 2.4 GHz and 128 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The platform supports a second processor for up to 16 physical cores and 32 threads in total. This configuration targets virtualization hosts, database nodes and general-purpose application tiers.
Storage is handled by the embedded B140i controller which provides software RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 for SATA drives only. The unit includes two 500 GB 7.2K 6 Gbps 2.5-inch enterprise SATA drives in an 8-bay SFF front cage. SAS, NVME and hardware RAID acceleration are not supported by this controller, so arrays are limited to the throughput and queue depth of the SATA interface. Additional drive cages or a universal media bay can expand the bay count but require a different controller for non-SATA media.
With one processor installed the 24 DIMM slots are halved to 12 active slots and the maximum addressable memory is 128 GB, which this unit already reaches. Buyers who need more than 128 GB of RAM must add the second processor to unlock the remaining slots and the full 3 TB platform limit. The installed DDR4 modules run up to 2400 MT/s subject to the processor capability.

The board has 24 DDR4 slots, 12 per processor. With one CPU only 12 slots are usable, so the installed 128 GB already fills the active channels. Adding a second processor unlocks the remaining 12 slots for future expansion.
The eight-core Xeon E5-2630 v3 runs at 2.4 GHz base with hyper-threading giving 16 threads. Memory operates up to 2400 MT/s DDR4 ECC registered, actual speed limited by the processor's memory controller.
The B140i provides software RAID 0/1/5/10 for SATA drives only. It caps throughput at the SATA 6 Gbps link and uses host CPU cycles for parity, so sustained write speeds are lower than a dedicated hardware SAS RAID controller.
