The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 is a 2U rack system built around two Xeon Silver 4410y processors, each with 12 cores at 2.00 GHz and 30 MB cache. It ships with 1 TB of DDR5-4800 ECC buffered memory across 16 modules and 61.44 TB of enterprise SAS SSD storage on eight 7.68 TB drives. The platform targets businesses running databases, virtualization or multiple simultaneous applications that need scalable bandwidth and PCIe Gen5 connectivity. Buyers who need GPU-accelerated AI training or single-threaded frequency above 3.90 GHz turbo should look elsewhere.

Sustained load behaviour

Dual redundant power supplies allow a failed unit to be replaced without taking the server offline, supporting continuous operation during extended workloads. The MR408i-o storage controller with 4 GB cache manages the SAS 12 Gb/s SSD array for consistent I/O throughput. Embedded 4-port 1 GbE OCP3 networking provides baseline connectivity for steady-state traffic. The Xeon Silver 4410y turbo reaches 3.90 GHz, but sustained all-core frequencies under heavy virtualization will sit lower, so plan capacity around base clock rather than peak burst.

Installation requires fitting memory

The 16 DDR5 modules and eight 2.5-inch SAS SSDs are supplied separately and must be installed before the server goes into the rack, adding time and care to the initial build. Rail kit is included for standard 2U mounting. iLO 6 with Intelligent Provisioning handles remote firmware updates and hardware health monitoring once the system is powered. Missing drive carriers or mismatched DIMM population order are the most common issues that delay first boot.
