14.1-inch ThinkPad for office work

The Lenovo ThinkPad T440P is a 14.1-inch laptop built around an Intel Core i5 4th Gen 2.60GHz dual-core processor with 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 2.5-inch 1TB SSD. It ships with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit installed and includes a DVD-RW drive, integrated webcam, VGA and MiniDisplayPort outputs, Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11 b/g/n wireless. The 1366 x 768 LED-backlit display is non-touch and the chassis is finished in black.

Limits of the integrated graphics and display

The Intel HD Graphics 4600 integrated GPU shares system memory and is suited to general productivity, video playback and light multitasking rather than 3D workloads or modern gaming. The panel resolution of 1366 x 768 limits on-screen workspace and external displays connected via VGA or MiniDisplayPort will be constrained by the same graphics pipeline. Wireless performance tops out at 802.11n speeds and the single 2.5-inch drive bay cannot accept a second internal drive without removing the optical drive.

Straightforward service access with one catch

The bottom cover is secured by standard screws and gives direct access to the single DDR3 SO-DIMM slot, the 2.5-inch SSD and the wireless card, so memory or storage swaps take minutes with a small Phillips driver. The optical drive uses a modular bay that can be swapped for a second drive caddy if extra capacity is needed. The main installation risk is forgetting to reseat the keyboard ribbon cable when reassembling after a memory upgrade, which leaves the keyboard and TrackPoint unresponsive until the cable is reinserted.
