The StarTech HSB3SATSASBA fits three 3.5-inch SATA or SAS hard drives into a pair of standard 5.25-inch front bays. Its trayless mechanism lets you insert or remove drives while the system runs, and a key lock secures each bay against accidental ejection. The unit ships with three 18-inch SATA data cables, two SATA power receptacles, three SFF-8482 internal connectors and mounting hardware.
A single 70 mm fan spins at 3000 RPM and moves 27.60 CFM of air across all three drives during continuous operation. Noise is rated at 26.72 dB-A, so the cooling remains audible but subdued under steady load. The aluminum chassis acts as a heatsink, spreading warmth from the drives to the forced-air path without throttling transfer rates on the 6.0 Gbps interface.
Drives slide straight into the SFF-8482 receptacles without trays or screws, and the front-panel key lock prevents unintended removal during hot-swap events. The included 18-inch SATA cables reach most motherboard headers, though builders with unusually long routing paths may need extensions. The only common snag is aligning the dual-bay faceplate evenly so the lock engages on both sides.

Three SATA 7-pin data cables and two SATA 15-pin power connectors from the host are needed; three 18-inch SATA cables are included.
Yes, the backplane supports SATA I, II and III simultaneously, so 1.5 Gbps and 6.0 Gbps drives operate together.
