The Buffalo LinkStation 710 LS710D0801 is a new desktop network-attached storage device with one 8 TB SATA drive installed. A hexa-core 1.3 GHz processor and 2 GB of memory run the closed operating system, providing a personal cloud and automated backup for computers and mobile devices without subscription fees.

Upgrade from single-drive USB storage

Replacing a direct-attached USB drive or a 1 GbE NAS adds native 2.5 GbE connectivity and up to seven times the throughput of the LS200 series. The jump is worthwhile when multiple users need simultaneous access or when large media libraries must stream to DLNA devices across the network.

Limited by one drive bay and 2.5 GbE ceiling

With a single SATA bay there is no redundancy; a drive failure means data loss unless an external backup is maintained over USB 3.2 Gen 1 or USB 2.0. The 2.5 GbE port caps network throughput at 2.5 Gbps, so environments that already run 10 GbE infrastructure will not see their full LAN speed.
