The PowerEdge R730 fits into a standard 2U rack slot and delivers two 8-core Xeon E5-2640 v3 processors running at 2.6 GHz with a 3.4 GHz turbo. Fifty-twelve gigabytes of DDR4 ECC memory are installed across 16 modules, leaving eight slots open for future expansion up to 1.5 TB. The PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for flexible array design.

Hot-swap drive bays and redundant power simplify

Eight 2.5-inch SAS bays hold ten 600 GB 10K enterprise drives, all accessible from the front without tools. Two 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies share the load and can be swapped while the system runs. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections, while iDRAC 8 Enterprise provides dedicated remote management over a separate interface.

Verify rack depth, rail clearance

The included Ready Rails require sufficient cabinet depth for the 2U chassis; measure your rack to confirm fit. SFP+ transceivers and compatible fibre or direct-attach cables are not supplied, so source those for the 10 Gb links. Ensure your environment can deliver the required power phase and voltage for dual 750 W supplies, and plan BIOS or firmware updates through iDRAC after installation.
