The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 processor with 10 cores at 2.3 GHz. It ships with 96 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots and two 300 GB 15 K SAS drives managed by a PERC H330 controller. Redundant 750 W hot-swap power supplies and a quad-port 1 GbE daughter card complete the baseline configuration.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous demand the dual 750 W supplies share the load and maintain uptime if one unit fails. The H330 RAID controller supports levels 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60, allowing the 15 K SAS spindles to deliver consistent throughput for database or virtualisation tasks. DDR4 memory runs up to 2400 MT/s depending on the installed processor, keeping latency predictable during extended compute cycles.

Installation notes for 8-bay 2U chassis

The chassis accepts up to eight 2.5" hot-plug SAS or SATA drives; trays are included only with drives purchased from Dell. Seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot provide expansion room, but the single CPU limits usable slots to those wired to the first processor. iDRAC8 Express is enabled by default for out-of-band management; Enterprise features and vFlash media require separate licences. No operating system is included.
