The Dell PowerEdge R730xd 12LFF fits twelve 3.5-inch drive bays into a 2U rack chassis. Dual Xeon E5-2640 v3 processors at 2.6 GHz and 192 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory give ample threads and capacity for virtualisation hosts, backup targets or software-defined storage clusters. The PERC H730 SAS controller manages RAID across SATA or SAS disks. Integrated graphics and iDRAC8 Enterprise provide remote console and lifecycle management without a dedicated GPU.

Dual 1100 W supplies with intelligent fan curves

Redundant 1100 W power supplies share load and adapt fan speed to inlet temperature and component utilisation. Under typical mixed workloads the system draws well below the combined rating, keeping acoustic output suitable for a standard server room. The iDRAC8 telemetry surfaces real-time power, thermal and fan metrics so operators can correlate noise with specific workloads. Hot-plug supplies allow replacement without service interruption.

Twelve-bay chassis frees rack slots for expansion

The 12-bay front panel consumes only 2U, leaving adjacent rack units for network switches, additional storage shelves or compute nodes. Dual 10 GbE and dual 1 GbE ports on the installed Intel I350/X540 card provide uplink flexibility without occupying PCIe slots. An optional rail kit eases installation in standard 19-inch racks.
