Dense 2U storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD packs twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays into a 2U rack form factor. A single Xeon E5-2650 v3 with ten cores at 2.3 GHz and 48 GB of DDR4 handles compute duties. The H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across up to 52 TB of raw capacity. It targets teams that need high local storage density without moving to a larger chassis.

Build integration

Dual 750 W redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the system running during a module failure. Six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID slot leave room for additional network or acceleration cards. Four onboard 1 GbE ports handle baseline connectivity while optional NDC modules can add 10 GbE. iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band management without consuming a PCIe slot.

Sustained load behaviour

The 24 DIMM slots are fully populated at 48 GB, so memory expansion requires replacing modules rather than adding them. Maximum supported memory reaches 1536 GB when both processor sockets are filled. Under continuous disk-heavy workloads the H730’s 1 GB cache and 12 Gbps SAS/SATA interface maintain consistent throughput. The Matrox G200 graphics core uses minimal power, leaving thermal headroom for the CPUs and drive array.
