The Dell PowerEdge R730xd packs twenty-four 2.5-inch drive bays into a 2U rack chassis, giving midsize and large enterprises a dense platform for data warehouses, e-commerce, virtual desktop infrastructure and high-performance computing nodes. Dual Xeon E5-2640 v3 processors supply sixteen cores at 2.6 GHz with 3.4 GHz turbo, while 64 GB of registered ECC DDR4 across four modules provides a reliable base for memory-intensive workloads.

SATA and SAS interface limits

The PERC H730 controller handles both 12 Gb/s SAS and 6 Gb/s SATA drives, yet the installed 400 GB SSDs operate on the SATA interface, capping sequential throughput to the SATA 6 Gb/s ceiling. Twenty-four memory slots allow expansion to 1.5 TB, though populating all channels may reduce clock speed below the native 2133 MHz rating.

Hot-swap power and rails simplify operations

Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies and hot-swap drive carriers let technicians replace components without downtime, while included sliding rails and a front bezel ease rack installation.
