The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack-mount server system equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors running at 2.60 GHz with 16 cores each. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 modules and a PERC H730P storage controller with 2 GB cache. Twenty-four 800 GB SATA solid-state drives fill the front bays.

SATA SSD capacity and controller limits

The installed drives use the SATA 6 Gb/s interface and connect through the H730P controller, which supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. All 24 bays are occupied by 2.5-inch SSDs, so no additional internal SATA or SAS devices can be added without removing existing drives. The controller’s 12 Gb/s SAS backend does not change the SATA link speed of the fitted SSDs.

512 GB DDR4 memory installed
