This 1U rack server ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3 eight-core processors at 2.6 GHz and 96 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. It includes two 500 GB 2.5-inch SATA enterprise drives and a B140i software RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10. Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy. No operating system is included.

Suits virtualisation hosts needing dense CPU cores

The dual eight-core CPUs deliver 32 threads, and the 24 DIMM slots are already populated to the 96 GB installed maximum. The eight SFF bays accept 2.5-inch SATA drives only; the B140i controller does not support SAS devices. Buyers who need hardware RAID, SAS connectivity or more than eight drive bays should look at a different platform.

Storage limited to SATA on B140i controller

The onboard B140i provides software RAID for SATA drives exclusively. Adding SAS SSDs would require a different controller that is not included. The two included 500 GB 7.2K SATA drives occupy two of the eight available bays.
