The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for data-centre workloads that need dense compute and large memory capacity. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 processors, each with twelve cores at 2.3 GHz, providing 24 physical cores and 48 threads. Installed memory is 128 GB of DDR4 ECC registered DIMMs across the 24 available slots, reaching the maximum supported by these processors. The platform suits virtualisation hosts, database nodes and batch-processing clusters that benefit from high core counts and redundant power.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

Dual 500 W hot-swap redundant power supplies share the load and keep the system running if one unit fails. The 2U chassis uses managed fan arrays that ramp speed based on inlet temperature and CPU utilisation, so acoustic output rises with sustained heavy compute. Typical idle draw is well below the 500 W supply rating, leaving headroom for twelve 3.5-inch drives and add-in cards. Redundant power and hot-swap fans allow maintenance without shutting down the host.

Smart HBA H240ar and drive-bay flexibility

The Smart HBA H240ar provides 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA connectivity with hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the twelve front LFF bays. Twelve drive trays and screws are included, but no drives are installed, so buyers must supply their own 3.5-inch SAS or SATA media. An optional rear cage can add three more LFF or two SFF bays at the cost of the second riser slot. The integrated Matrox G200eH2 with 16 MB video memory handles basic console output only.
