The 512 GB DDR4 memory array uses sixteen 32 GB modules running at 3200 MHz. Eight 3.84 TB SATA SSDs deliver 30.72 TB of enterprise flash storage behind a P408i-a controller with Smart Storage Battery.

Upgrade from single-socket or lower-core platforms

Moving from a single Xeon or a lower-core Gold model doubles thread count and raises the turbo ceiling to 3.70 GHz. The jump is worth it when database instances, virtualization hosts or simultaneous application loads exceed the capacity of 16 cores and 256 GB memory. The 10 Gb Ethernet adapter and hot-swap redundant power supplies remove networking and uptime bottlenecks that appear on smaller systems.

SATA III 6 Gb/s interface limits peak throughput

The eight 2.5-inch drives connect through a 6 Gb/s SATA III link, so sustained sequential speed tops out at the interface ceiling rather than the flash media limit. Random mixed workloads scale with the P408i-a cache and battery-backed write acceleration, but very high queue-depth reads will saturate the bus. The 1U chassis and pre-installed rail kit constrain further drive expansion without external enclosures.
