The MB998IPB fits eight 2.5-inch SAS or SATA solid-state drives or hard drives, each 5 mm to 7 mm high, into a single external half-height 5.25-inch bay. It is built for workstations, media servers, HPC clusters and industrial PCs that need dense, hot-swappable storage without using multiple drive bays.
Sustained operation with dual 40 mm cooling
Two user-controllable 40 mm fans and a ventilated all-metal chassis keep drive temperatures stable during continuous read and write workloads. The rugged construction is designed for medical and military systems where long-term reliability matters more than short bursts of speed.
Dual miniSAS HD 8643 host interface
The backplane connects to a RAID controller or host bus adapter through two miniSAS HD SFF-8643 ports, providing 12 Gb/s SAS and 600 MB/s SATA bandwidth per drive. This interface choice determines whether the cage matches your existing controller and cabling.
