Two USB 3.0 ports with SATA power

This PCI Express x1 add-on card adds two external USB 3.0 Type-A ports to a desktop computer. It draws supplementary power from an internal SATA connector so each port can deliver up to 900 mA for charging or bus-powered devices. A low-profile bracket is included for small-form-factor cases.

Upgrade from USB 2.0 headers

The jump is worthwhile when a motherboard lacks native USB 3.0 connectivity or when existing headers are occupied. UASP support reduces protocol overhead on compatible storage, and the NEC µPD720202 controller is compatible with Windows XP through Windows 8, Windows Server 2003 through 2012, and Linux kernel 2.6.31 or later.

5 Gbps bandwidth shared across two ports

The link comfortably handles external hard drives, flash drives and docking stations at SuperSpeed rates. Cable runs up to 3 metres are supported without signal degradation. Bandwidth is divided when both ports are active simultaneously, so sustained transfers on two high-throughput devices will saturate the single PCI Express 2.0 lane.
