Drive-bay converter

The ICY DOCK MB882SP-1S-3B converts a 2.5" SATA or SAS drive into a 3.5" form factor so it can be installed in any standard desktop drive bay. It accepts drive heights of 7mm, 9.5mm, 12.5mm and 15mm, covering both SSDs and notebook hard drives. The single-piece black bracket is designed for consumers and builders who need to add 2.5" storage to a 3.5" slot.

Build integration

The converter uses a 7-pin SATA interface that also supports single-channel SAS when the host controller provides it, requiring no extra cables or adapters beyond the standard SATA data and power connections. Tool-less drive installation lets you secure the 2.5" device inside the bracket quickly, while universal mounting holes align with existing 3.5" bay screws. The open-air frame leaves the drive fully exposed to case airflow instead of trapping heat inside a closed tray.

Sustained operation

Perforated vents and an open-air structure promote continuous airflow around the mounted drive, helping temperatures stay stable during long write sessions or RAID rebuilds. Anti-vibration springs absorb minor shocks while a stabilising mechanism keeps the drive firmly seated, reducing the risk of connection loss under vibration. The lightweight one-piece construction adds negligible mass to the chassis and does not obstruct neighbouring bays or cables.
