The Apricorn Aegis Padlock DT is a 10TB 3.5-inch desktop external hard drive spinning at 7200 RPM and connecting through a USB 3.0 interface. It targets users who need high-capacity local storage with hardware-based encryption that works without installing any software on the host computer.

Capacity and headroom

Ten terabytes provide room for large media libraries, project archives and full-system backups while the 7200 RPM spindle keeps sequential throughput respectable for a mechanical drive. The single-drive design means total capacity is fixed at 10TB and there is no internal redundancy, so a drive failure puts the entire dataset at risk unless you maintain separate copies.
