Socket AM3+ platform
The ASRock 970 PRO3 is an ATX motherboard built around the AMD 970 and SB950 chipsets for AM3+ processors such as FX, Phenom II, Athlon II and Sempron 100 Series. It targets builders who want a mature platform with native SATA 6Gb/s and dual-channel DDR3 memory support up to 32GB across four 240-pin slots.
Expansion and connectivity
Two PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots operate at x16 and x4 electrical, joined by one PCI Express x1 slot and two legacy PCI slots for older add-in cards. Six SATA 6Gb/s ports provide RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10, while the rear panel supplies two USB 3.0 ports, six USB 2.0 ports, PS/2, Gigabit LAN and six analogue audio jacks driven by the Realtek ALC892 codec.
Sustained operation
The board uses a 24-pin ATX power connector plus an 8-pin CPU power connector to feed the socket and memory under continuous load. Dual 4-pin and 3-pin headers for CPU and chassis fans allow speed-controlled airflow, and the Realtek 8111E Gigabit controller maintains a steady 1Gbps link during long transfers.
