The Corn Electronics external drive adds CD and DVD read-write capability to laptops and desktops that lack an internal optical unit. It connects through a USB 3.0 port and draws power from the same connection, so no separate adapter is required. The slim white enclosure measures 0.67" x 5.60" x 5.70" and weighs very little for easy transport.

Replaces missing internal optical drives

This unit fills the gap left by ultra-thin notebooks and compact PCs that omit a built-in burner. The upgrade is worthwhile when you need to install legacy software, create physical backups, watch DVD movies or burn discs at up to 8X DVD and 24X CD speeds. It is not for users who require Blu-ray reading or writing, or who need faster than USB 3.0 transfer rates.

Plug-and-play installation

The drive is detected automatically by Windows 98 through 10, Linux and all Mac OS versions without extra drivers. Simply connect the USB cable and the device appears in the operating system. The most common issue is insufficient port power on some older laptops, which can cause the tray to eject or writes to fail; a powered hub or USB Y-cable usually resolves this.
