Purpose and audience

The Corn Electronics R4I SDHC Dual Core Gold Pro 2018 Card Reader is a flash-card adapter for Nintendo DS, DSi, 2DS, 3DS and New 3DS consoles. It lets owners run Nintendo DS ROMs from a microSD card on supported handhelds.

Upgrade scope

The 2018 revision extends compatibility to console firmware versions 1.0 through 11.6. The jump is worthwhile for users on newer system software that older adapters cannot recognise. It does not support 3DS ROMs.

Interface limits

The reader connects via IEEE 1394 and USB 2.0 for kernel updates and file transfers. MicroSD capacity is capped at 32 GB with FAT32 formatting. Kernel files must be placed in the card root directory, not in sub-folders.
