The Crucial MX500 CT1000MX500SSD1 is a 2.5 inch internal solid state drive with a 1TB capacity. It connects through a SATA interface and uses 3D NAND memory components. The drive is designed for consumer workloads such as operating system boot, application loading and personal file storage.

Sustained write behaviour with Dynamic Write

Dynamic Write Acceleration uses an SLC buffer to absorb incoming data at high speed before folding it into the main 3D NAND array. When the buffer fills during long transfers, write throughput settles to the native NAND rate rather than the peak burst figure. Adaptive Thermal Protection throttles the controller if temperatures rise, preventing overheating during extended sessions. Integrated Power Loss Immunity preserves in-flight data if power is lost mid-write.

Practical limits of the SATA interface

The SATA link caps sequential throughput at 560 MBps read and 510 MBps write regardless of NAND speed. Random performance tops out at 95,000 IOPS read and 90,000 IOPS write within the same bottleneck. Endurance is rated at 360 TBW with a 1.8 million hour MTTF. AES 256-bit encryption operates without consuming host CPU cycles.
