This Dell 400-ARDX is an 8 TB 3.5 inch SAS hard drive built for Dell PowerEdge servers. It uses a 12 Gbps SAS interface and spins at 7.2K RPM. The drive supports hot swap and carries FIPS certification for encryption. It is intended for enterprise server deployments only.

Capacity and workload fit

The 8 TB capacity suits bulk data, backup targets and nearline archives in compatible PowerEdge systems. Sequential throughput is adequate for large-file streaming and sequential write workloads. Random I/O performance will saturate well before the interface limit under heavy mixed workloads. The drive is not designed for high-transaction databases or low-latency primary storage.

SAS interface practical limits

The 12 Gbps SAS link provides generous headroom for the drive’s sustained transfer rates. Real-world throughput is bounded by the 7.2K RPM mechanics, not the interface.
