The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server designed for capacity-focused workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2650v3 processors delivering 20 cores and 40 threads total. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across two modules. Two Seagate 4TB 3.5-inch SAS drives provide the initial storage pool.

Hot-plug bays and redundant power

Twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays allow drive changes without downtime. The H730 12Gbps RAID controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 for flexible data protection. A 750W redundant power supply helps maintain uptime if one unit fails. Four 1GbE ports on the daughter card handle baseline network connectivity.

Verify rack space and memory growth

The chassis measures 26.8 inches deep, 17.44 inches wide and 3.4 inches high, so confirm rack depth and clearance before ordering. Memory can scale to 1536GB across 24 DIMM slots running up to 2400MT/s, but additional processors are required to populate the second set of slots. No operating system is included, so plan for a separate licence. PCIe 3.0 slots are available for extra network or accelerator cards.
