High-density blade server

The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server built for data-centre workloads such as virtualization, private cloud and high-performance computing. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6154 processors, each running at 3.0 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency and 18 cores. The system includes 128 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight modules.

Upgrade from single-socket or older blades

Replacing a single-processor blade or an earlier generation model adds a second Xeon Gold 6154 and doubles the core count to 36, raising the ceiling for parallel workloads. The jump is worthwhile when applications can use the extra threads and the memory capacity headroom up to 1.5 TB. The PERC H330 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50 for local storage resilience.

Fits MX and M1000e chassis

The blade slides into a PowerEdge MX or M1000e enclosure, drawing power and cooling from the shared infrastructure. Two 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drive bays are provided with caddies, while the Broadcom 57810S-K daughter card delivers dual 10 Gb Ethernet ports. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote management without a dedicated console, and the Matrox G200 GPU handles basic video output.
