The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server built for high-density data-centre deployments. It targets IT teams running virtualisation, private-cloud or high-performance computing workloads that demand many cores in a small chassis footprint. The unit fits into PowerEdge MX or M1000e enclosures and ships without an operating system.

Dual Xeon Gold 6230 Upgrade

This configuration installs two Intel Xeon Gold 6230 processors, each with 20 cores running at 2.1 GHz base and 3.9 GHz turbo. The jump from a single-socket or lower-core-count blade is worth it when licensing, memory bandwidth or thread density become the limiting factor. Sixteen DDR4 slots support up to 1.5 TB of registered ECC memory for future growth.

Sustained Load Behaviour

Under continuous load the dual 20-core CPUs maintain elevated frequencies within the blade’s thermal envelope. The PERC H330 controller manages the two 1.92 TB SATA SSDs in RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 or 50 without a dedicated cache module.
