PowerEdge R530 2U dual-Xeon server

This new Dell PowerEdge R530 is a 2U rackmount server system built around two Intel Xeon E5-2603 v3 six-core processors running at 1.6 GHz. It ships with 96 GB of DDR4 memory installed across twelve DIMM slots and includes a Dell PERC H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache. Two 300 GB 15K SAS drives occupy hot-plug bays, and dual 750 W redundant power supplies are fitted. The chassis supports up to eight 3.5-inch drives and provides four 1 GbE ports via a daughter card.

Suited for dense storage and virtualisation hosts

The configuration suits teams that need a compact 2U platform with hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60 and room to grow internal capacity to 80 TB using SAS or SATA drives. Twelve memory slots allow the fitted 96 GB to be expanded to the processor-supported maximum of 384 GB. Builders who require 10 GbE networking, GPU compute capacity or more than five PCIe slots should evaluate larger platforms.

PERC H730 RAID controller with 12 Gbps SAS

The single specification that decides fit is the Dell PERC H730 controller, which delivers 12 Gbps SAS connectivity and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. This controller determines which drive types can be used and the data-protection schemes available. If your workload demands a different RAID feature set or an alternative drive interface, this server will not meet the requirement.
