Versatile 2U rack server for virtualization

The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rack server built for growing business environments. It runs two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors at 2.1 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. Each processor has 16 cores, and the system includes 128 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory. This configuration targets virtualization, database management and software-defined storage workloads.

Twelve 3.5-inch SATA drives on a PERC H730P

Storage is provided by twelve Dell Enterprise 4 TB hard drives spinning at 7.2K RPM over a 6 Gb/s SATA interface. The PERC H730P controller adds 2 GB cache with battery backup and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. The 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA controller bandwidth and the 3.5-inch drive form factor set the practical limits for capacity and throughput in this chassis.

The unit ships with two 750 W platinum power supplies and dual 1 GbE network ports. iDRAC 9 Express handles remote monitoring and administration.
