The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores each. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules. Eight 4 TB 7.2K SAS drives are installed behind a PERC H740P controller with 8 GB cache. The system includes dual 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management.

Verify that your rack provides 2U of clearance and that the facility can supply redundant power to two 750 W PSUs. The chassis accepts 3.5-inch SAS drives on a 12 Gb/s backplane; SATA drives are also supported by the H740P controller. Memory expansion uses DDR4 RDIMM slots up to a 1 TB maximum across 16 slots. Network connectivity is limited to two onboard 1 Gigabit RJ45 ports unless additional cards are added.

Under continuous workloads the dual 16-core Xeons maintain a 2.1 GHz base frequency with turbo up to 3.7 GHz when thermal headroom allows.
