The PowerEdge R640 packs two Xeon Gold 6148 processors, each with 20 cores at 2.4 GHz and 3.7 GHz turbo, into a single rack unit. 512 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory fills 16 of the 24 available slots. Eight 800 GB SATA SSDs provide fast local storage behind a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache.

Verify rack depth and network cabling

The chassis uses 2.5-inch drive bays and includes ready rails for standard four-post racks. Confirm the rack can accommodate the server depth and that SFP+ transceivers or direct-attach cables are on hand for the dual 10 GbE ports on the X520/I350 daughter card. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies require matching PDU outlets.

Hot-swap redundancy frees maintenance windows
