The PowerEdge R640 fits two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors in a single rack unit, giving 24 cores at 2.3 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 slots, leaving eight slots open for expansion up to 3 TB. The Intel C620 chipset supports the dual-socket layout for scale-out workloads.

Eight-bay 2.5-inch front storage with PERC H730P

Eight 400 GB SATA SSDs occupy every front bay, managed by the PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache and battery backup. The controller enables RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through modes. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections, while iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides dedicated remote management.

Redundant 750 W platinum supplies

Dual 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies share the load and allow hot replacement without downtime. The 1U chassis uses internal airflow paths designed for front-to-rear cooling across processors, memory and storage. Rails and a front bezel are included for standard rack mounting.
