Dual-socket 1U platform

The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rack server built for dense scale-out data centre computing. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors, each running at 2.6 GHz with 16 cores and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 128 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 16 GB modules. Eight 400 GB SATA SSDs provide fast storage in a compact form factor.

Controller and connectivity

A Dell PERC H730P 2 GB SAS/SATA controller with battery backs the storage array and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through. Network duties are handled by an Intel X520/I350 quad-port daughter card delivering two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links. Remote management comes via iDRAC 9 Enterprise. The chassis includes ready rails and a front bezel for immediate rack integration.

Redundant power and sustained operation

Dual 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies operate in redundant hot-swap mode to maintain uptime during a module failure. The Intel C620 chipset supports up to 3 TB of memory across 24 slots for future expansion. The 1U height and eight 2.5 inch drive bays maximise rack density while the redundant cooling design sustains performance under continuous load.
