Dual-socket 1U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rack-mounted server designed for dense scale-out data centre deployments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors, each running at 2.4 GHz with 20 cores and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 128 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 16 GB modules.

SAS storage controller limits

Storage is managed by a Dell PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache and battery backup. The controller supports SAS and SATA drives with RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Two 300 GB 10K SAS hard drives are installed in the eight available 2.5-inch drive bays.

Fixed dual-processor ceiling

The server accommodates a maximum of two processors, both sockets are already populated. Memory capacity can expand to 3 TB using the 24 DIMM slots, with 16 slots still free. Network connectivity provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports via an Intel X520/I350 daughter card.
