The PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rack server built for dense scale-out data center computing. It ships with two Intel Xeon Silver 4110 processors, each running at 2.1 GHz with 8 cores. The system includes 64 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across four 16 GB modules. This configuration targets workloads that need high compute density in a single rack unit.

H730P Controller and Network Daughter Card

The Dell PERC H730P 2 GB storage controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. It manages eight 1.2 TB 10K SAS drives installed in the 2.5-inch bays. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE ports and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for flexible network connectivity. iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides dedicated remote management.

SAS 12 Gb/s Interface and Dual-CPU Ceiling

The SAS backplane operates at 12 Gb/s, limiting drive throughput to that bus speed. Only two processor sockets exist, so the system cannot scale beyond the installed pair of Xeon Silver 4110 CPUs. Memory capacity tops out at 3 TB across 24 slots, but the current 64 GB uses just four slots. The 1U form factor restricts expansion to low-profile cards only.
