The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rack server built around two Intel Xeon Silver 4110 processors running at 2.10 GHz with eight cores each. It targets data-centre workloads that need high compute density in a single rack unit. The system ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across four modules.

Front-access storage and networking

Eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drive trays sit behind the front bezel and connect to a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links. iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides dedicated remote management.

Redundant platinum power supplies

Two hot-swap 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver full redundancy for continuous operation. The 1U chassis uses forced-air cooling tuned for the dual-processor configuration. Memory capacity can scale to 3 TB across 24 slots when workloads demand more than the installed 64 GB.
