The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rackmount server built around two Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors running at 3.20 GHz. Each CPU provides eight cores, giving sixteen threads for parallel workloads. It targets businesses that need reliable virtualization, database or application hosting capacity in a standard rack slot.

96 GB DDR4 with 3 TB headroom

Ninety-six gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across the DIMM slots, leaving room to grow to the platform maximum of 3 TB. The current fit handles multiple virtual machines and data-heavy services comfortably; very large in-memory databases or dense VDI deployments will eventually require additional modules. Six 512 GB SSDs sit in the front bays, offering 3 TB of flash storage for operating systems, applications and backups.

H740P controller and ten-bay chassis

A PERC H740P hardware RAID controller manages the six drives and supports further expansion inside the ten 2.5-inch bay chassis. Front-panel LEDs show power, Ethernet and USB status at a glance. The integrated GPU covers basic display needs only, so graphical compute or GPU-accelerated workloads are not supported. Weight is 60 kg.
