The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rackmount server built for business workloads such as virtualisation, databases, file storage and application hosting. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors deliver 40 cores in total, while 256GB of DDR4 memory supports multiple virtual machines and data-heavy services. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays let you choose the capacity and drive type that best fit your needs. The H730P storage controller, rack rails and front bezel are included for a rack-ready configuration.

Sustained Load Behaviour

The dual-socket design distributes long-running compute tasks across 40 cores at 2.4GHz, helping maintain throughput for virtualisation hosts and database workloads. 256GB of DDR4 memory reduces the need for swap during extended sessions, keeping latency stable when many services run simultaneously. The H730P controller manages storage I/O consistently under heavy read and write patterns. Integrated graphics handles basic display output without adding heat or power draw.

Installation Notes

Rack rails and the front bezel are supplied, so the chassis mounts in a standard 1U space without extra hardware. Drive trays for the eight 2.5-inch bays are included, allowing drives to be inserted once the server is racked. Memory uses DDR4 modules only; other generations will not fit the LGA3647 platform. No operating system is installed, so you must provision your preferred hypervisor or OS before putting the system into production.
