The PowerEdge R730 packs two Intel Xeon E5-2680 v4 processors, each with 14 cores at 2.4 GHz and a 3.3 GHz turbo. 768 GB of DDR4-2400 registered ECC memory fills all 24 slots, supporting large-scale virtualisation, database and HPC workloads. Eight 300 GB 10K SAS drives connect through a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache and battery-backed write cache.

Redundant 750 W platinum supplies

Two 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies share the load and can be replaced without shutdown. The 2U chassis uses Dell’s engineered airflow to keep both CPUs, memory and drive bays within thermal limits during normal operation. iDRAC 8 Enterprise provides out-of-band thermal monitoring and alerting so administrators can react before thresholds are breached.

Sustained multi-threaded throughput

Under continuous load the dual 14-core CPUs maintain high clock speeds across all 28 threads, while the H730 controller sustains write performance through its battery-backed cache. Quad-port networking with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links prevents I/O bottlenecks during prolonged database or VDI sessions. The system supports up to 1.5 TB of memory for future expansion.
