The PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack system built around two 16-core Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 processors running at 2.1 GHz with a 3.0 GHz turbo. It targets midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure and high-performance computing nodes. Thirty-two total cores and 256 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory give strong multi-threaded throughput for consolidated workloads. 256 GB DDR4 and dual 400 GB SSDs with PERC H730

Eight 32 GB DDR4 2400 MHz modules fill 8 of 24 slots, leaving 16 slots open for expansion up to the 1.5 TB maximum. The Dell PERC H730 1 GB controller manages the two 400 GB SATA SSDs and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 plus pass-through mode. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays provide room for additional SATA or SAS devices. The installed flash capacity suits boot, logging or caching tiers; workloads needing large active datasets will require more drives.

Redundant 750 W platinum supplies

Dual hot-swap 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver redundancy for continuous operation in a 2U chassis. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for flexible network connectivity. Integrated iDRAC 8 Enterprise enables remote management, monitoring and deployment without an operating system. Rails and a front bezel are included for standard rack installation.
