The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built for midsize and large enterprise workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4 processors running at 2.2 GHz with a 3.6 GHz turbo frequency. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 registered ECC memory are installed across four 16 GB modules. The system targets virtualisation, databases, VDI and high-performance computing nodes.

Upgrade From Single-Socket Or Lower-Core Systems

Moving from a single-socket platform or processors with fewer than 22 cores per socket adds forty-four total cores and 1.5 TB maximum memory capacity. The jump is worth it when your workloads need high thread counts and large memory footprints for virtual machines or in-memory databases. The PERC H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with a 1 GB cache and battery backup.

Straightforward Rack Installation

The server includes ready rails and a front bezel for standard 2U rack mounting. Two hot-swap 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy without downtime. iDRAC 8 Enterprise gives full remote console, power control and hardware monitoring over the network. Eight 2.5-inch drive trays accept SAS or SATA drives; no drives are included so you must supply your own storage media.
