The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack-mount system designed for data-centre workloads that need dense compute and storage in a standard cabinet. It ships with a single six-core Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 running at 1.9 GHz and 96 GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. Redundant 750 W hot-swap power supplies and an iDRAC8 remote-management card are included.

Storage ceiling set by controller and bays

The PERC H330 12 Gbps RAID controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 across up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives. Two 300 GB 15 K SAS drives are installed, leaving six bays free for expansion. Maximum raw capacity reaches 64 TB when all bays are populated with large-form-factor drives.

Sustained throughput under multi-drive arrays

With the H330’s 12 Gbps SAS link and 15 K spindles, sequential read and write streams scale linearly as drives are added to the array. Redundant power and hot-swap bays let a failed drive be replaced without downtime, while the 750 W supplies maintain headroom for a fully loaded chassis during continuous operation.
